Electrical supply industry urged to stay vigilant
The Approved Cables Initiative (ACI) is warning contractors and suppliers to remain watchful for faulty cables following the cancellation of Atlas Kablo’s BASEC product certification licence (26th July 2010).

An ACI investigation leads to the recall from the UK of more than 11 million metres of cable.
Turkish cable manufacturer has BASEC licence suspended
Cable manufacturer Atlas Kablo of Turkey has had their BASEC product certification licence suspended after non-compliant cable was found in the UK market. Atlas Kablo has acknowledged that cables have failed to meet British Standards and they are currently contacting their customers to withdraw these products from sale. BASEC has advised that affected cables should not be installed and if they have been installed to seek further guidance.
Calling time on faulty cables
When cable distributor, UK Cables Limited, queried a Turkish consignment of PVC flexible cable, internal quality checks exposed a major cabling defect which has led to the withdrawal of many million metres of cables from the UK supply chain.
BASEC issues statement on Atlas Kablo
BASEC has issued a statement regarding Altas Kablo and non-compliant H05VV-F Flexible Cables.
